Empowering local women through education and employment opportunities
In the heart of Africa, deep in The Rift Valley of Kenya and Tanzania, The Maasai People have a culture even more rich than the colors they wear. While following the same traditions for 1,000's of years, the modern age is starting to catch up to them. By providing them with a source of income and an education, they can learn how to thrive while preserving their beautiful culture.
Tumaini Volunteers and Marafiki Community International are teaming up to assist a rural village near The Maasai Mara Game Reserve Park. 85 miles west of Nairobi, Nkorero is home to 200 people, including 11 families. A community center will help the community flourish through practices of sustainability.
A cafe to be an oasis for tourists traveling in and out of the Maasai Mara Park. Refreshments, snacks and traditional meals will be offered.
A curio shop to sell items handcrafted by local men and women. The selection will include bead work, carvings and artwork.
A vocational training center to hold classes for local adults to learn new trades and help their community grow.
